Peel Regional Police and OPP are on the scene of a car fire on Hwy. 403 at Erin Mills Pkwy. in Mississauga that’s snarled rush-hour traffic in both directions.

In a set of circumstances remarkably similar to those of a car fire on Hwy. 410 in Mississauga about 30 minutes earlier, the Hwy. 403 incident unfolded just before 4 p.m. after a collision involving an unknown number of vehicles in the eastbound lanes.

One car caught fire, and police say the driver initially fled on foot.

A man has since been taken into custody by police.

Three lanes and the right shoulder are closed to traffic.

Meanwhile, Hwy. 410 at Courtneypark Dr. in Mississauga continues to be shut down as police investigate a similar incident there.

Police tweeted a car caught fire after a collision in the northbound lanes at about 3:30 p.m.

They say the vehicle on fire is believed to have been stolen, and the driver fled the scene on foot.

Police dogs are helping officers search for the driver.
