It was a ‘ruff’ weekend for Ontario Tech Ridgeback varsity squads with the men’s and women’s hockey teams and the men’s and women’s basketball teams all seeing their seasons come to an end.

The men’s hockey squad at least made it to the playoffs but the team, 13-10-3 after the regular season, were swept by identical 4-0 scores by the Carlton Ravens and red-hot goaltender Mark Grametbauer in the best-of-three first round of the OUA playoffs.

The women’s team hosted the Nipissing Lakers for their final game of the 2022-23 season Saturday night, losing a tight one, 2-1, Malory Dominico’s game-winner 7:28 into the third period.

Prior to the game graduating seniors Erin Ross, Brooke Vial, Katie Mikkelson, Mackenzie Krasowski, Brooklyn Duff and Madeline Schroder were recognized for their contributions to the program.

The Ontario Tech men’s basketball team (4-18) finished their season on high note, winning their final two games on a northern road trip, including an 88-85  victory over the Nipissing Lakers Saturday night.

Jayden Cooke finished with a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds, Levi Ogbonna led all scorers with 23 and AJ Cummings chipped in 19 points Saturday.

The women’s team (3-19) also saw their season come to a close on Saturday night with a 79-66 loss to those same Nipissing Lakers. Hadeza Ismalia finished with a game-high 20 points in the loss, followed by the program’s all-time leading scorer in graduating senior Dalyssa Fleurgin, who finished with 18.
