Search warrant in St. Catharines turns up illegal loaded rifle

Two St. Catharines residents are facing charges after a search warrant turned up a loaded .22 caliber bolt action rifle that neither were licensed to use.

Yesterday (January 10), a warrant as used to search a house in the Chetwood Street and Churchill Street area of the city at 4:15 pm.

Once in, Niagara Police found the rifle (shown above) and charged the two people in the house.

Michael Roberts, 42, of St. Catharines, who does not possess a valid firearms licence, was charged with:

• Possessing a a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence

• Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, or prohibited device

Baylea Pritchard, 23, of  St. Catharines, who also does not possess a valid firearms licence, was charged with:

• Possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence

• Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, or prohibited device

Both Roberts and Pritchard were being held for bail hearing scheduled to take place later today (January 11th) via video link to the courthouse in St. Catharines.
