Search for Oshawa murder suspect nears end of second week

The ongoing search for Adam Odette, the primary suspect in the murder of Katie Kainz, is nearing the end of its second week while police continue to plead for information.
Odette, 37 of Oshawa, is wanted on charges of second-degree murder in connection to the stabbing death of Katie Kainz, 26, on March 14.
That night Kainz and another woman were stabbed near Simcoe St. and Adelaide Ave. around 4 a.m. on March 12. Kainz, a recent Fleming College graduate in mental health and drug addictions, succumbed to her wounds two days later.
The second woman, who remains unidentified, was treated in the hospital. She was soon stabilized, but continues to recover from injuries police describe as “life-altering.” Odette is also wanted for the attempted murder of this victim.
A Canada-wide warrant for Odette was released on March 15. Durham Regional Police have been searching for him ever since. Investigators have advised Odette to find a lawyer and turn himself in.
They’ve also stressed that anyone helping Odette avoid capture opens themselves up to be charged with accessory to murder after the fact. If convicted, anyone helping Odette could be sentenced to life in prison.

According to court documents, Odette has a long rap sheet stretching back to 2006, including a series of muggings, a home invasion and aggravated assault, according to court documents. He was out on probation at the time of Kainz’s murder.
