Scrap metal thefts topping $45,000 leads to charges for Pickering man

Multiple scrap metal thefts from an Ajax business have led to charges against a Pickering man, with the total loss estimated at more than $45,000.

Durham Regional Police responded to an alarm call at AIM Recycling on Dowty Road just after nine p.m. on June 29 after the suspect was observed breaking into the business’s scrap metal yard. Officers, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, Tactical Support Unit and Drone Unit, searched the area and took the man into custody.

Further investigation revealed the suspect had allegedly committed multiple thefts from the business.

Haron Mohammad, 35, was charged with break-and-enter and theft over $5,000.

He was released on an Undertaking.
