UPDATE: Schools no longer placed under hold and secure as of 3:10 p.m. on May 10

Several schools in Burlington have been told to lock their doors and not to let anyone in as police continue to search for a man who may be armed and is considered dangerous.

The hunt for 41-year-old Tom Shade began this afternoon (May 10) as Halton police issued a bulletin telling the public to notify them if he is seen, but warned people not to approach.

Police have said the search began in the New Street and Dynes Road area but have since broadened their scope.

It is not known why the police are searching for the man.

Fearing the man may be looking for a place to hide, police have placed several schools in the area under “hold and secure” which means doors are locked and nobody is allowed to enter although activities continue as normal inside.

“Do not approach,” Halton police have said on social media. “He is on foot and should be considered dangerous. Call 911.”
