All schools in Durham are closed for the second day in a row due to road conditions and “insufficient snow removal.”

Secondary schools at both local school boards will switch once again to virtual learning.

In a letter to parents and students, the Durham District School Board said they made the decision – helped by the cancellation of buses – after “careful consideration of the health and safety risks to both students and staff.”

Elementary students will not participate in remote learning, except for those already enrolled with the at-home program. For those students, today is a normal day.

“While we understand that multiple municipalities in Durham Region had indicated that roads would be clear by the morning and we hoped that the situation would improve for safe commutes to be possible, that is not the situation this morning.”

“We ask that parents please do not send their children to school.”
