Schools with the Durham public board will still remain open if winter weather forces the cancellations of school buses, according to a policy release from the Durham District School Board.

In “very rare” situations, elementary schools located in the affected zone would close but the high schools would switch to remote learning for all students.

The release stated that the policy update is being shared “in order to ensure everyone remains safe.”

Families will be notified about bus cancellations as soon as possible (no later than 7 a.m.) through a posting on the DDSB website, social media, and where possible, through local radio stations and media outlets.

Students and families can find a list of schools within each weather zone by visiting the Durham Student Transportation Services (DSTS) website. Zone 1 is the Brock Area, Zone 2 is Uxbridge, Zone 3 is Scugog and Zone 4 is the Southern Area.

More information can be found on the DDSB’s website at ddsb.ca.
