School closures for Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Niagara, Halton and Durham for Dec. 23

As southern Ontario prepares for a major winter storm, many school boards are deciding to cancel school for Dec. 23.

Environment Canada is predicting heavy rain or snow starting tonight (Dec. 22). Then temperatures are expected to plummet on Friday leading to a potential flash freeze.

Potentially damaging winds of 90 to 100 km/h along with may produce blizzard-like conditions Friday afternoon.

Here are the school closures for Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Niagara, Halton and Durham for Dec. 23.

Information will be updated as it comes in.


Peel:

The Peel District School Board announced it will close all schools and worksites for the day.

It was already a day off for the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board.


Hamilton:

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board will both be closed on December 23.

Likewise, all YMCA Child Care Centres in Hamilton and Burlington will be closed due to the storm.


Halton:

Halton Catholic District School Board and the Halton District School board were already closed for the start of the Christmas break. But both boards announced the closure of offices as well due to the weather.


Niagara:

Both the District School Board of Niagara and the Niagara Catholic District School Board closed schools due to a possible blizzard in the area.


Durham:

Schools in the Durham District School Board were already scheduled to be closed tomorrow for the start of their holiday break.

The Durham Catholic District School Board has closed all schools tomorrow due to the weather.
