Save at the pumps as gas prices dropping for switch to winter blend in Ontario

Prices at the pump are saw drops across Ontario as stations switch over to the winter gas blend on Wednesday.

The price of gasoline goes up during the summer due to a blend that helps fuel burn cleaner, which is switched over in the winter months to keep your engine running smoothly in colder weather.

Prices are dropped from around 149.9 cents per litre to 146.9 cents in Toronto with some areas of the GTA seeing even larger dips.

The price break will bounce back somewhat on Thursday to a price of 148.9 cents per litre in Toronto, according to gas price tracking website gaswizard.ca.

Refiners are mandated in certain areas of the U.S. to adjust formulations as gasoline tends to evaporate with higher temperatures, according to the Gaswizard blog. This results in higher greenhouse gas emissions and smog, and the cost of the process is passed on to the pumps.

Drivers looking to save even more at the gas pumps could save up to eight or nine cents per litre depending on the time you fill your tank.
