Royal Botanical Gardens offering programs for Burlington youth

Several programs and clubs for Burlington youth are scheduled to start soon at Royal Botanical Gardens.

RBG’s goal is to be a leader in environmental stewardship and education by engaging the young leaders of today and preparing the way for a better tomorrow.

By engaging communities through stewardship programs, summer leadership development programs and grassroots events RBG can take a lead role in youth leadership, environmental stewardship and education.

Here are the three programs aimed at youth.

YES Alliance

For: High school students

Runs: September to June

If you’re a high-school student who is passionate about nature, interested in environmental science, or aspiring to a career spent outdoors, join RBG for the Young Environmental Science (YES) Alliance.

Junior Naturalists Club

For: Ages 6 to 12,

Runs: October to May

In partnership with the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club, nature lovers aged 6 through 12 are encouraged to sign up for this once-a-month program where they’ll be immersed in the natural world throughout the year. Prepare for fun and adventure while exploring the ravines, forests, fields, and wetlands of RBG. Sessions are 2.5 hours long and are themed to match the season and hiking location.

Camp Leadership Development Program

For: Ages 14 and up

Runs: Summer, winter break, March break

Have the fun of camp but reap the benefits of being a leader Work with an enthusiastic staff team who share a common interest and learn more about the environment, camping and working with children. Junior staff can lead games, crafts, create and brainstorm activities and facilitate camp programs.
