Police have charged an elderly man from Caledon with impaired driving offences after allegedly crashing and rolling over into the ditch last week.

The OPP says that shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (April 20), officers from the Caledon detachment and emergency crews were called to Heart Lake Rd. near Charleston Sideroad for reports of a crash.

When crews arrived on the scene they found the driver of a white car had flipped, rolling over onto the roof of the vehicle. Pictures from the scene shared by the OPP show that the vehicle may have crossed into the oncoming lanes before driving into the ditch and rolling over.

Police say a 71-year-old male suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash, but while officers were investigating they had reason to believe the driver was impaired.

A 71-year-old male from Caledon was arrested by the OPP and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on May 18 to answer the charges. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
