rogers outage class action

A Canadian class action lawsuit has been launched against Rogers and Fido after a nationwide outage in 2021.

Rogers, Fido and Chatr customers who had cellular services interrupted in the outage on April 19, 2021, could be compensated, according to a press release from Montreal law firm Lex Group Inc.

The outage started early on April 19, 2021, and lasted into the evening for some customers. People could not make calls, send or receive text messages or use their data or cellular plan on that day. At the time, Rogers officials said it was due to a software update.

The Superior Court of Quebec authorized a national class action against Rogers Communication Inc., Rogers Communications Canada Inc. and Fido Solutions Inc. on Feb. 20, 2024, the release stated.

If the class action is successful, customers may be eligible to receive compensation, including, without limitation, a partial reimbursement of service or subscription fees, and/or other compensatory, moral and/or punitive damages, Lex Group Inc. said.

The compensation amount will be determined soon by the court, the law firm said.

Rogers, Fido and Chatr customers do not have to do anything to join the class action, nor do they need to pay attorney fees.

Customers who do not want to be part of the class action lawsuit will need to contact the clerk of the Superior Court of Quebec, District of Montreal, no later than Nov. 23, 2025, by registered or certified mail.

Those who want updates on the lawsuit can sign up on the Lex Group Inc. website.
