If you read my earlier food review about Bobby’s Hideaway, you know how much I love breakfast if you go all out with it — and this Mississauga restaurant definitely goes all out with it, but with a Mexican twist.

Popular Mexican breakfast and brunch restaurant Huevos Gourmet has become one of the city’s best all-day breakfast spots ever since it relocated from Toronto to Port Credit last year. One look at their menu and you’ll see just how much they have to offer for breakfast lovers, including a variety of omelettes, steak & eggs, crepes, eggs benedict (as well as taco benedict and waffle benedict), and the breakfast burrito, which is what I enjoyed to give you this review.

THE DISH:

Going in to this meal, the only thing I had heard was that the breakfast burrito was impressively large, and that much was definitely true. Even when cut in half this is a huge, heavy burrito, although that’s definitely not a bad thing if you woke up with a huge appetite.

The burrito had scrambled eggs, beans and ground beef all wrapped up in a soft tortilla, and the taste definitely did not disappoint. All of the ingredients were perfectly cooked and complimented each other incredibly well, with a taste that will make you wonder why people don’t have burritos for breakfast more often.

If you aren’t already full from the burrito itself, it comes with a hearty side of diced potatoes (which were tender and well-seasoned) and of course, a tasty guacamole dip.

THE UNIQUE:

There’s definitely quality but also quantity on display here — not just in the size of the restaurant’s portions but also their huge all-day breakfast menu. Huevos also has a smaller all-day lunch menu and a dessert menu with Mexican sweets such as churros and what they call “Abuela’s granola.”

Huevos Gourmet also prides itself on hospitality, with a warm and friendly staff ready to make you feel like you’re at home (their slogan is “Mi casa es tu casa” which translated to “My house is your house”).

THE VERDICT:

Whether you’re craving a burrito for breakfast or you just want something nice and filling, Huevos Gourmet’s breakfast burrito absolutely doesn’t disappoint. If you can only get one thing from their all-day breakfast menu, we recommend giving the burrito a try.
