There’s something so innately satisfying about sinking your teeth into beef ribs slathered in BBQ sauce, pulling the tender meat off the bone and savouring the delicious flavour.

If that introduction just got your mouth watering, then you’ll be happy to know that there’s a nice variety of places to get ribs in Mississauga. One particular gem that may have slipped under your radar is Char’d Grill.

Located in the plaza at the corner of Rathburn Road East and Tomken Road (next to Pita Pit), Char’d Grill is a father-son operation serving a variety of delicious grilled meats and sauces made in-house. Their menu features beef short ribs, beef skewers, grilled chicken breast and more, served on its own or in a wrap or platter.

The restaurant also has poutine on its menu (including chicken poutine and beef short rib poutine) and a selection of side dishes including waffle fries, veggie rice, salad and mogo.

THE DISH:

This was my first time trying Char’d Grill so I went with the tried and true: The beef short ribs with a side of waffle fries and a small salad.

The thinly sliced short ribs are extremely flavourful, with the meat being almost tender enough to hit that melt-in-your-mouth feeling that we absolutely adore with ribs. The restaurant marinates all of their meat in their signature marinade for a minimum of 48 hours, and the result is absolutely delicious.

Adding on to that already delicious flavour and texture, the ribs came slathered in a generous amount of my choice of Sweet Seoul sauce (an easy recommendation if you love Korean BBQ). Other sauce options include Kansas City BBQ, Atlanta’s Lemon Pepper, and for those who love a little heat with their ribs, the spicy Lisbon Heat (Peri Peri) and Kingston Kick. The restaurant says it aims for a selection of sauces “varying from many countries all around the world.”

As for the waffle fries, they’re the perfect combination of hot and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and make for the perfect southern-style side for a meal like this. Both the waffle fries and the ribs came in a generous amount too, so this is a great meal both quality and quantity-wise.

THE UNIQUE:

Char’d Grill was started by a father-son duo with years of experience in the restaurant industry, who were inspired by new and fresh concepts that redefine the idea of “grilled food.” Starting out as a simple idea in their home’s backyard, it’s since developed into a full-fledged restaurant that prides itself on using freshly butchered meat and sauces all made in-house. We’re excited to see what’s next for Char’d Grill!

THE VERDICT:

If you’re craving tender, juicy ribs and crispy waffle fries (a match made in heaven), this is hands down one of the best Mississauga restaurants to get it. I would personally recommend the beef short ribs, but if you’re a lover of grilled meat in general then everything on Char’d Grill’s menu looks delicious and well worth a try.
