Pizza is a food you can never get tired of (I know I can’t, at least…), but if you’re bored of the same old pizza places or you’re looking for something of a little higher quality, it may be time to switch things up.

One of Mississauga’s newest pizza options is Doughbox Pizza, which recently opened a new location at Heartland Town Centre and is also planning to open in Port Credit. They also have a location in west Hamilton and plan to expand to Oakville and downtown Toronto.

In addition to their selection of specialty pizzas and customizable pizzas, Doughbox’s menu features a number of pasta dishes with various toppings including parmesan alfredo, meatballs, grilled chicken and more. They also have salads and even a dessert pizza that combines the sugary sweetness of Nutella, banana, and smores.

As for their pizza, the question is: How good is it, and is it a worthy entry to Mississauga’s already well-established pizza scene?

THE PIZZA:

For this review I tried one of Doughbox’s popular specialty pizzas, the Twisted Club (Parmesan basil pesto, oven-roasted chicken, pancetta, grape tomatoes, mozzarella, wild arugula, fresh avocado, and lemon pepper aioli).

This pizza caught my eye because of how good it looked on the menu and because of the avocado, which until now I’d honestly never even thought of as a pizza topping. So, how does it taste?

I’m pleased to report that the Twisted Club is absolutely delicious. All of the toppings were fresh and tasty, and altogether made for a unique combination of flavours that did not disappoint — delightfully zesty and creamy. I especially liked the juicy tomatoes and generous dollops of avocado, and the chicken and pancetta were both savoury and delicious as well.

All of this was on crispy thin crust which added a nice pleasant crunch to the taste — however, the restaurant lets you customize your pizza to have extra thick crust or cauliflower crust if that’s more your taste.

THE UNIQUE:

As previously mentioned, Doughbox’s menu features specialty pizzas, build-your-own pizzas where you can choose all the toppings, and even a dessert pizza that looks amazing. The restaurant specializes in pasta dishes as well, which is a nice option to have particularly when you’re in a group and not everyone wants pizza.

THE VERDICT:

Doughbox is a much welcomed new addition to Mississauga’s pizzerias, and the Twisted Club is a great tasting pizza that’s also on the healthier side (c’mon, look at that photo and tell me you’ve seen more green on a pizza before). If you’re hungry for a high-quality pizza was fresh, healthy ingredients, I would definitely recommend the Twisted Club.
