The weather may be cold today but Brampton is already thinking about patio season.

Since 2020, Brampton’s Seasonal Patio Program has created approximately 80 temporary seasonal patios across the city.

The City of Brampton announced today (Feb. 29) that it is launching its 2024 Seasonal Patio Program.

Beginning March 1, local businesses can submit applications for a temporary seasonal patio permit.

Patios can operate from April 6 to Oct. 26.

The program aims to support local economic growth and foster a more vibrant community, a press release from the City of Brampton states.

By providing local businesses with the opportunity to extend outdoor, Brampton’s restaurants, bars and cafes can enhance their spaces and attract more patrons.

Restaurants with a liquor licence can also apply. The patio expansions by-law was amended to allow temporary extensions to create or extend outdoor spaces for businesses with or without a liquor licence.

Following the end of this year’s patio season, businesses will have until Nov. 2 to remove patios and temporary structures, ensuring the safe and efficient use of public spaces.

An application fee is $100 and other fees may be required for additional permits and/or inspections.

While this program is geared toward temporary, seasonal patios, businesses can continue to request a permanent outdoor patio area or structure through the city’s Building and Development Services division.
