With the winter holidays fast approaching, residents of Brampton are reminded the City has introduced new by-laws for short-term rentals.

As of September 30, short-term rentals are permitted in the principal residence for a maximum of 180 days per calendar year, and no more than three bedrooms are to be rented individually.

Additionally, the property owner must have proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance, and the a license renewal is required every year.

Short-term rentals are any rentals that provide sleeping accommodations for a period no longer than 30 days consecutively.

As short-term rental properties increase, Brampton, as well as other communities, have experienced challenges such as a decrease in the number of affordable rental units available, properties being used as ‘party-houses,” and maintenance of the property.
