Residents escaped a fire at a highrise building overnight in Mississauga.

The fire broke out on an upper-floor balcony at 3120 Kirwan Ave., near Hurontario and Dundas streets, around 3:10 a.m. this morning, a Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson tells insauga.com.

A photo from the scene shows flames shooting out from the balcony.

The residents safely escaped and there were no injuries reported. Transit buses were on scene for the displaced residents of the building while fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

The fire damaged parts of the unit as well as the balcony, the spokesperson said. Residents of other units were able to return to their apartments.

Kirwan Avenue was shut down to road traffic as crews worked.

As of 8 a.m., one truck remained on scene for fire watch and investigators were expected to look into the cause of the blaze.
