Reports of a firearm at a Whitby hotel result in charges after BB gun seized

A man was arrested at a Whitby motel following reports of an argument and a brandished firearm last night.
Police were called to the hotel on Champlain Avenue due to reports of a loud argument. Officers were told one of the guests pulled a gun on another patron and caused a disturbance.
The man, an unidentified 38-year-old of no fixed address was arrested. Police say they seized a BB gun with the appearance of a realistic revolver.
Under the Canadian Criminal Code if an imitation firearm is used in the commission of a crime, the same legal consequences are incurred as though it were a real weapon.
The man was charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and three counts of breaching probation. He was also charged on with break and enter from a previous incident.
