Milton Public Library’s (MPL) 2021 Annual Report revealed that more people used its programs and services last year.

Despite the pandemic, MPL continued offering a variety of programs for the community, while adding new functionality to its mobile library app and implementing virtual volunteer opportunities.

This, in turn, led to increased usage and enabled them to maintain the highest active cardholder rate of any public library in Canada.

According to the report, a total of 86,300 people or 68 per cent of the population actively use their MPL cards last year.

Throughout 2021, MPL experienced an increase in library card holders by 36 per cent, an increase in the number of programs by 27 per cent and an increase in circulation of 19 per cent.

Additionally, throughout 2021, there was an increase in people visiting the library online by 15 per cent.

In terms of programme attendance, the report revealed that there was an increase in 145 per cent for children, 135 per cent for teens and 28 per cent for adults.

The report also revealed that online library activity increased by a whopping 296 per cent.

In 2021, MPL announced that for the first time ever, hours would be extended at both the Main library and Sherwood branches to include full days on Sundays.

They have also undertaken initial planning for its first-ever bookmobile, which will be fully electric and is anticipated to be on the road within the next few years.
