The remnants of tropical storm Debby could impact flights out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement as the remnants of the storm pass through southern Ontario and Quebec on Friday.
Heavy rainfall amounts of 25 to 50 mm are expected in the GTA on Friday. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible, Environment Canada said.
More rain is expected in eastern Ontario and Quebec — the Montreal and Ottawa areas could get up 100 mm, Environment Canada said.
This could impact flights to these areas, Pearson Airport said in a post on X Friday morning.
“A weather system bringing the remnants of Hurricane Debby to eastern Ontario and Quebec could impact flights to Ottawa and Montreal as those regions could see up to 100mm of rainfall,” Pearson said.
Fridays are some of the busiest summer days at the airport.
“We’re planning for 530 departures, 528 arrivals and over 144,000 passengers across both terminals,” the airport said.
Travellers can check the status of their flight here.
