Remnants of Hurricane Beryl to hit Ontario this week

The remnants of Hurricane Beryl will be present in southern Ontario on Wednesday and Thursday, potentially causing heavy rainfall.

A special weather statement has been issued for most of southern Ontario including:

  • Mississauga
  • Brampton
  • Toronto
  • Oakville
  • Milton
  • Burlington
  • Hamilton
  • Niagara Region
  • Durham Region

There will be torrential downpours giving rainfall rates of 20 to 40 mm per hour at times. The localized rainfall totals possibly well in excess of 50 mm.

This will begin late Tuesday night or Wednesday early morning and continue into Thursday.

The heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Hurricane Beryl may affect portions of southern Ontario beginning Tuesday night or Wednesday and may persist into Thursday.

Although the exact track of the weather system is low, according to Environment Canada, these types of systems in the past have given very high rainfall rates in torrential downpours.

Rainfall warnings may be issued as confidence in the track of the system increases.
