Religious leader charged with sexual assault in Brampton

A community religious leader is facing charges following a sexual assault investigation in Brampton.

The incident happened around 12 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25 at the female victim’s Brampton home.

At that time, it’s alleged that a male suspect known to the victim attended her residence and sexually assaulted her.

Police have since arrested and charged Abdul Wahid Mamun, a 41 year old Brampton man who has served as an Imam at a religious centre in Brampton.

He is charged with sexual assault and breaking and entering with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The investigation is ongoing, and investigators believe there may be more victims.
