It didn’t take very long for Ashlea Carter to hit the jackpot once she started playing the lottery on a regular basis.

The 40-year-old Mississauga mother of one grabbed $588,305.70 thanks to her winning Ontario jackpot ticket in the Oct. 1 Lottario draw.

She said she’s been a regular lottery player for only two years, and this is her first big win.

“I play my own set of numbers, all birthdays and other important dates,” she said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her winnings.

Carter said she checked her numbers on OLG.ca and discovered her big win.

“My partner is the first person I told, and she didn’t believe me. She kept saying ‘Stop lying,'” said Carter. “It’s surreal; it still hasn’t hit me yet.”

Carter says she plans to pay some bills, put a down payment on a house, trade in her car and invest her winnings.

The winning ticket was purchased at Park Royal Variety, on Truscott Dr. in Mississauga.
