The Halton Connects program helps match newcomers to Canada with longtime community members in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills to help achieve their career goals.

Through participation in the Halton Connects program, you get:

  • access to career preparation workshops, which include guest speakers, activities about everyday life in Canada, and group discussions
  • support with identifying opportunities that match your skills and job interests
  • Canadian work experience and community connections through volunteer positions
  • information, guidance and mentorship from Canadian citizens or longtime community members

Volunteering will help you establish and grow your professional network, meet new people and build valuable connections in the community. It will also provide the opportunity to gain Canadian work experience and references in your community.

Being connected to a career mentor can help build your local network, increase your communication skills and develop your understanding of professional environments in Canada.

Opportunities are available in a wide variety of industries and sectors. Volunteer positions will be geared to each participant’s area of interest and/or support their employment goals.

The program aims to help newcomers integrate into their community and achieve their goals using resources to connect individuals with all types of volunteer positions.

At the start of the Halton Connects program, you will participate in several interactive workshops on networking, writing resumes and cover letters, interview skills, and more. These workshops will help prepare you for your volunteer and/or mentorship experiences, as well as your future job search.

To participate in the Halton Connects program, you must be a permanent resident of Canada, protected person or a convention refugee.

Ukrainians who arrive in Canada under the CUAET immigration stream are also eligible for the program.
