WHITBY Riding
Ryan Turnbull (Liberal) took this key swing riding in 2019, beating Todd McCarthy of the PCs by more than 5,000 votes. The riding has swung back and forth between the Liberals and Conservatives over the years and was ruled by former Tory Finance Minister Jim Flaherty from 2006 until his death in 2014.
Turnbull, who holds a master’s in philosophy and applied ethics, runs a social innovation consulting company.
He is being challenged in this election by Maleeha Shahid of the Conservatives, the Ward 4 Councillor for the Town of Whitby since 2018. A small business owner and mother of three, Shahid has served on a number of Town committees and is an active community volunteer.
Thomas Androvic (People’s Party) and Rob Carinci (Libertarian) are also in the race.
The NDP have not nominated a candidate.
