Region holding waste days for hazardous, electronic items in Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton

Local residents needing to get rid of an old stereo or TV, or some old automotive liquids or pool chemicals will have an opportunity to do so.
Halton Region is holding three special waste drop-off days in Oakville, Milton and Milton for special household hazardous and electronics.
The first special waste day is in Halton Halton Hills on Saturday (Sept. 16) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 11620 Trafalgar Rd.
The second scheduled date to dispose of those items will be held in Oakville on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1430 Trafalgar Rd.
Residents will also be able to dispose of their special waste in Milton on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 9430 Guelph Line, Campbellville.
To make the recycling of household hazardous waste and electronic waste more convenient for Halton residents, the Region holds Special Waste Drop off Days throughout the year.
No commercial waste is accepted on those special days.
Acceptable electronic items for drop off are:
- Computers and modems
- Monitors
- TVs and receivers
- Stereos and speakers (including vehicle stereos)
- DVD, VCR & Blue-ray players
- Cameras/camcorders (including security cameras)
- Cellphones, home phones
- Printers, copiers, fax machines
- Headphones
- Audio recording equipment
- Electronic musical instruments
- PDAs and pagers
- Printer Cartridges
- Projectors
- Video gaming devices
- Drones with audio/visual recording equipment
- Handheld point-of-sale terminals or devices
- All peripherals and cables (including charging cables)
Acceptable household waste items for drop off are:
- Acids, solvents, glues
- Aerosols(full or partially full)
- Automotive liquids, oil filters
- Sharps(must be in a sealed contain) like pins and needles
- Batteries
- Waste cooking oil
- Household cleaners, bleach, pool chemicals
- Medications (prescription and over-the-counter)
- Personal care products
- Fluorescent lights, CFL bulbs (8 maximum per visit)
- Pressurized cylinders less than 20lbs
- Mercury-containing devices
Residents are reminded before you leave home to:
- Sort loads by material type
- Remove all fluids from gas-powered equipment
- Customers must make their own arrangements to unload heavy material. For health and safety reasons, Container Station Attendants are not permitted to assist customers with unloading of any material
- Empty oil drums and tanks and cut in half
- Secure open loads with tarp or rope
- Do not place hazardous waste at the curb, it will not be collected
- Do not place hazardous waste in garbage or down the drain or storm sewer
Tips
- Materials must remain in a clearly marked, sealed container
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
- Do not mix materials together
- Empty, dry metal paint cans, with lids removed, can be placed in the Blue Box
