Your refund check will soon be in the mail if you paid for your Ontario licence plate sticker in Mississauga, Brampton and Hamilton and the rest of Ontario the past two years.

The refunds will start going out next week and throughout April as part the plan that will see Ontario scrap the stickers and most fees. Those who had to pay fines or have recently changed addresses will get their refunds in the fall.

The amount of refund you will receive depends on how many years you have paid since 2020. Local motorists have generally paid $120 per year.

Most drivers will qualify for the refund but vehicles registered to companies or businesses are not eligible for the payback plan. Licences for snowmobiles are also not eligible unless the stickers have never been used.

The Province says that checks arriving via the mail are the only way to receive the refund and warn that any text message, phone call or email that is sent your way concerning the refund is a scam and should be ignored.

Premier Doug Ford said the cancelling of the sticker program and the fees is a way for Ontario residents to save some money following the pandemic.

More than 8.5 million vehicles are eligible for the refund.
