RED CARD CLOSURE: Popular hamburger joint shut down due to health risks in Brampton

UPDATE: The restaurant has reopened after passing a follow-up inspection on Friday, Feb. 23.

Original story:

A Brampton restaurant has been shut down after a routine inspection found several health code violations.

Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant, located at 269 Queen St E., was inspected on Thursday, Feb. 22.

According to the inspection report, the restaurant did not process food in a way that made it safe to eat, and did not take adequate steps to prevent the harbourage or breeding of pests.

The restaurant also failed to maintain non-food contact surfaces in clean, sanitary condition, and failed to use accurate and easy-to-read thermometers, among other infractions.

The restaurant was shut down on Thursday and will remain closed until it can pass a follow-up inspection.

This is currently the only failed health inspection on the restaurant’s record.
