Kia Canada issued a recall for SUVs due to a malfunction, which could be a safety hazard.

Kia Telluride SUV models between 2020 and 2024 are included in the recall, according to a March 28 notice from Transport Canada.

The axle shafts may not have been manufactured properly on the impacted vehicles.

As a result, the axle shaft splines could become damaged.

“If this happens, the vehicle could move when it’s parked and the parking brake isn’t applied,” the notice states.

A parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury or a crash.

Kia will notify owners by mail and advise owners to take vehicles to a dealership to update the electronic parking brake software.

To reduce the safety risk, Kia recommends drivers always use the parking brake when parked.
