A model of space heater has been recalled in Canada following dozens of overheating incidents and several fires in the United States.

Health Canada issued the recall on Thursday for the Vornado SRTH Small Room Tower Heater, which were sold between 2013 and 2022.

The company found that the fan blade “can become displaced or detached from the motor shaft over time,” which can lead to overheating and possible ignition, Health Canada says.

“If the thermal safeties do not timely activate to cut power, an internal flame may breach the heater’s enclosure, posing a potential fire hazard,” the health agency says.

No incidents of overheating have been reported in Canada, but there have been over 30 in the U.S., including 8 reports of fire and one report of an injury.

The recall applies to the SRTH Black EH1-0084-06 with UCP number 043765008478, and the SRTH Ice White EH1-0084-43 with UCP number 043765009390.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Vornado Air for a refund, Health Canada says.
