RECALL: Portable power bank recalled over fire hazard in Canada

Canadians are being urged to immediately stop using a portable power bank sold online after Health Canada warned it could overheat and catch fire.

The federal agency has recalled the Super Road 12,000 mAh Solar Wireless Power Bank after determining the lithium-ion battery can overheat during use or while charging, creating a fire hazard.

Consumers who own the affected power bank should stop using it immediately and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for obtaining a refund or replacement. Recalled lithium-ion batteries should not be thrown in the household garbage or standard battery recycling bins. Instead, they should be disposed of through a municipal program that accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries.

The company reported that 4,964 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and 7,399 units were sold in the United States.

The affected products were sold from January 2019 to December 2023.

The recalled power banks were manufactured in China.

Health Canada says the recall applies to the Super Road 12,000 mAh Solar Wireless Power Bank sold through online retailers.

The agency reminds Canadians that recalled consumer products cannot legally be resold, donated or redistributed in Canada under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. Consumers who experience a safety incident involving the product are also encouraged to report it to Health Canada.
