RECALL: Popular kitchen appliances recalled in Canada amid numerous burn reports

Certain kitchen appliances have been recalled in Canada amid numerous reported burn injuries in the United States.

Health Canada published a notice Monday announcing the expansion of a previous recall affecting certain toaster ovens.

“The oven’s doors can unexpectedly close, posing a burn hazard to consumers,” officials said.

“As of Dec. 4, 2025, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received 95 reports of the doors unexpectedly closing and resulting in burn injuries and two reports of a second-degree burn.”

The number of reported injuries has not increased since the previous notice.

However, another model has been added to the recall list, impacting tens of thousands of additional appliances.

Health Canada said the recall involves the Oster French Door Toaster Countertop Ovens with the following model numbers: TSSTTVFDDG-033, TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDGDS, TSSTTVFDXLPP-033 and TSSTTVFDDAF-033.

Model number TSSTTVFDDG-033 was the one added in the expanded recall, officials said.

The model number can be found on the back of the oven and on the original packaging.

“The recalled ovens have a spring-loaded bilateral ‘French door’ made of glass with metal handles,” officials noted.

The models differ in cooking options (for example, air fryer) and control types (dials or digital buttons), Health Canada said.

In total, there were 170,560 of the impacted ovens sold in Canada from January 2015 to July 2025; 1,290,000 were sold in the United States.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled appliances and contact Sunbeam Products Inc. to arrange to get a free repair kit and installation instructions.
