Hundreds of chairs recalled in Canada

A certain type of chair has been recalled in Canada because it poses a fall hazard, officials say.

Health Canada said in a notice on Monday that the chair is used to seat young children at a dining table.

It’s the PandaEar brand Portable Hook-On Chair, Model BTC-51.

It has a black metal frame that’s covered with grey polyester and cotton material. It has an attached restraint in the seating area.

Two metal arms with plastic covers anchor to a dining table and the child is suspended from the table.

“The recalled portable hook-on chair poses a fall hazard because the crotch restraint can be removed without the use of a tool and infants can fall through an opening, posing a fall hazard,” Health Canada said.

There were 764 of the chairs sold in Canada from May 2022 to July 2023.

As of June 12, the company hasn’t received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact PandaEar to receive a full refund,” the notice said.

“Consumers will be asked to disassemble the product, cut the restraint straps and fabric seat, and email PandaEar at [email protected] with photographs clearly showing the destroyed product and model label.”
