Canadians are being warned about a food recall involving a popular hot-and-sour sauce that may pose a serious risk to people with peanut allergies.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced on Friday that Chongqing Hot and Sour Sauce has been recalled due to the presence of undeclared peanut. The recall was issued after it was discovered that the allergen was not declared on the product label.

The affected product was distributed in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. Consumers who have a peanut allergy or sensitivity are advised not to consume the product, as it could cause a serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
Food allergy recalls are issued when ingredients that can trigger allergic reactions are not properly identified on packaging. Peanuts are among Canada’s priority food allergens and can cause severe reactions in some individuals.
The CFIA has not reported any illnesses associated with this recall as of the time of the announcement. Consumers are encouraged to check their homes for the affected product and either dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase.
Additional details, including product photos and identification information, are available through the CFIA’s recall notice. The agency says it is continuing its food safety investigation and verifying that the recalled product is being removed from the marketplace.
