RECALL: Desserts sold in Canada can make you sick

Over 12,000 vehicles face possible airbag problem in Canada, Honda Acura recall

Residents are being urged to check their pantries for a recalled pistachio dessert product that may pose serious health risks if consumed.

The following product is part of the recall:

Al Kanater – Halawa with Pistachio (450 g)
UPC: 6 92551 00006 8
Best Before: 2027 MR 12
Lot: H51203

The product is being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can still cause illness. Young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious infection. Symptoms may include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.

Risks: Poses health risks.

What you should do: Consumers are advised not to eat or sell the product.  Recalled items should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase.

The recall was triggered by test results, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). There have been no reported illnesses associated with the product.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation and verifying that the recalled product is being removed from the marketplace.
