A large recall has been issued affecting more than 21,000 vehicles in Canada.
Transport Canada said in a notice that a software problem could impact some of the vehicles’ airbags.
“A software problem in the occupant restraint controller could cause the door airbag pressure sensor(s) not to work properly,” officials said.
“As a result, the side airbag(s) may not work properly in a crash…. Airbags that don’t work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.”
The recall is from Fiat Chrysler and involves the 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee models.
Transport Canada said the 2022-2025 Grand Cherokee and 2023-2025 Grand Cherokee L models are impacted.
Overall, there are 21,194 vehicles that are affected in Canada.
Fiat Chrysler will notify owners about the issue in writing.
They will be advised to take their vehicle to a dealership for a software update.
