A number of air conditioners and heat pumps have been recalled because they could cause burns or fires.
According to a joint recall issued by Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, and Daikin Comfort Technologies, the recall applies to Amana through-the-wall air conditioners and heat pumps that are white and have the brand name Amana printed on most of the units’ control covers.
The recall said the model number is located on a white sticker on the front edge of the base pan on the front of the unit. It will have the model beginning with PB** and the serial number is under the bar code that is under the model number.
The following products are affected:
PBE093J35AA Air Conditioner
PBE123J35AA Air Conditioner
PBH093J35AA Heat Pump
PBH113J35AA Heat Pump
Health Canada’s recall said the product does not comply with the electrical requirements in the applicable UL Standard, and the heating element may be energized at any time the unit is plugged in, regardless of the mode of the unit, and a ground fault in the equipment’s electric heater may pose a burn or fire hazard.
As of March 27, 2026, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
In the US, the company received one report of plastic on the product melting, but no injuries were reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled devices and contact Daikin Comfort Technologies for instructions to immediately shut down and unplug the product. The recall says device owners will be instructed to cut the product’s cord and submit a photo of the cut cord in front of the unit’s serial plate to receive a full refund.
The company said 53 products were sold in Canada and 7,030 units were sold in the United States between April 2025 and December 2025.
