RECALL: 242,000 vehicles impacted as major recalls issued in Canada

Two massive vehicle recalls have been issued in Canada, affecting more than 240,000 vehicles in total.

One of the recalls is from Fiat Chrysler and impacts some Jeep models, while the other is from Honda and impacts certain Honda and Acura vehicles.

Jeep

The Jeep recall is due to a wiring issue that could lead to a fire risk.

“On certain vehicles, the connection for the electric hydraulic power steering pump (EHPSP) could become loose,” Transport Canada said.

“If this happens, the EHPSP connection could overheat and melt…. Wiring that overheats and melts can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.”

The following Jeep models / model years are affected:

  • GLADIATOR — 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025
  • WRANGLER — 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025

There are 106,258 vehicles in Canada that are impacted, according to the notice.

Fiat Chrysler recommends that the vehicles are parked outside and away from other vehicles or buildings until repairs are completed.

The company will notify owners about the problem in writing and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership for an inspection and, if needed, the affected parts will be repaired or replaced.

Honda

The Honda recall was issued because of parts that could rust, possibly leading to poor handling and a loss of vehicle control.

“On certain vehicles, the suspension mounting points on the rear subframe could rust. As a result, rear suspension components could fail. This could lead to poor handling and a loss of vehicle control,” Transport Canada said.

“A loss of control could create the risk of a crash.”

The following models / model years are affected:

  • ACURA — MDX — 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020
  • HONDA — PASSPORT — 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023
  • HONDA — PILOT — 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022
  • HONDA — RIDGELINE — 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023

There are 136,260 vehicles in Canada that are impacted, the recall notice said.

“Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and install a rear subframe reinforcement kit or replace the subframe, as necessary,” Transport Canada said.

Overall, between the two recalls, 242,518 vehicles in Canada are affected.
