Two major car recalls have been issued in Canada.

Both are from Nissan and tens of thousands of vehicles are affected.

“On certain vehicles, the engine may not have been manufactured properly,” Transport Canada said in a notice for the first recall.

“As a result, the engine could make abnormal noises and a warning light may turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with these symptoms, the engine could fail….

“An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power to the wheels and/or increase the risk of a vehicle fire. Both issues could increase the risk of a crash or injury.”

The issue affects the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Nissan Rogue models.

Only certain vehicles that have a 1.5 L variable compression engine are impacted, the notice said.

There are 42,722 vehicles that are affected by that issue in Canada, officials said.

Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to have the engine control module updated. The engine will also be inspected and, if needed, replaced.

The second recall also involves some Rogue SUVs.

Transport Canada said that a software problem on certain vehicles could cause the electronic throttle chamber to fail, which could lead to a loss of power to the wheels.

“A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash,” the notice said.

The 2024 and 2025 Nissan Rogue models are affected.

Again, only certain vehicles that have a 1.5 L variable compression engine are impacted.

There are 47,559 vehicles in Canada affected by the second recall, officials said.

Nissan will notify owners about the issue by mail. They will be advised to take their vehicle to a dealership to have the engine control module updated. The electronic throttle chamber will also be inspected and replaced if needed.
