Real estate frauds worth over $500K lead to charges and lawsuits against Brampton man

A Brampton man has been charged and is facing multiple lawsuits linked to alleged real estate frauds where victims lost more than $500,000, according to reports.

The charges come after at least nine would-be homebuyers across the GTA paid deposits for pre-construction houses to a man who didn’t have the right to sell the properties, the CBC reports.

The incidents reportedly go back years, with at victims reportedly losing nearly $570,000, at least seven civil lawsuits filed against the alleged scammer and multiple fraud charges laid by Peel Regional Police.

Peel Regional Police have reportedly charged Moiz Kunwar, 28, of Brampton, with multiple counts of fraud over $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime.

The allegations have not been tested in court, however, police have urged potential homebuyers to stay away from the accused.

“Members of the public are urged to avoid any transactional interactions with Moiz Kunwar,” Peel police spokesperson Const. Tyler Bell-Morena told the CBC.
