Oakville’s Michael Hoecht is returning to the Los Angeles Rams next season.

The NFL club announced Wednesday (March 15) they have tendered exclusive rights with the free agent outside linebacker who will return in 2023 on a one-year deal.

The 25-year-old is coming off his third season with the Rams, recording 36 total tackles, nine quarterback hits, 4.5 sacks, four tackles for loss, and one forced fumble over 17 games.

The Super Bowl LVI winner, who made six starts, began the 2022 campaign as defensive lineman before transitioning to outside linebacker.

The six-foot-four, 300-pounder has accrued only two years of NFL service after having spent his entire rookie season on the Rams’ practice roster in 2020.

Hoecht’s becoming an exclusive rights free agent this off-season, which is a rare designation reserved for players whose contracts expire without three or more year accrued in the league.

His pressures were the third-most on the Los Angeles defense, behind Leonard Floyd (54) and Aaron Donald (40).

The Brown University alumni was passed over in the 2020 NFL Draft after recording 17 sacks and 158 tackles as a defensive lineman during his Ivy League career.

Hoecht was born in Oakville and lived there until he was four years old when his family moved Dayton, Ohio. He returned to Canada with his family and would play high school football in Ottawa and Toronto.
