New text scam addresses targets by their actual name in Mississauga and Brampton

A new scam appears to be making the rounds, and this one is addressing its targets by name, some local residents in Mississauga and Brampton have reported.

The scam is a lengthy text message claiming that the recipient has won a raffle draw and can win up to $1,000 in cash if they click the provided link.

The text includes the recipient’s full name and looks like this:

Residents are advised not to click the link and avoid giving away any personal data or information.

As for how a scammer may have gotten hold of your name, it’s likely related to a massive Facebook leak in April of this year which led to 533 million Facebook users’ phone numbers and personal data getting posted on a hacking forum.
