Quick service needed for power-assist steps for Oshawa-made Silverado HD trucks

Problems with the power-retractable assist steps on some units of the Oshawa-made Chevrolet Silverado HD have General Motors instructing dealerships to re-program the systems.

Re-programming the K4 Assist Step Control Module is a simple 30-minute procedure with no parts required, the company said.

Some Silverado HD vehicles (both the 2500 and 3500 series from 2021, 2022 and 2023) – as well as the corresponding GMS Sierra models – can reverse while deploying or stowing. As a result the steps may stow themselves again partway through deploying, or deploy again partway through stowing.

GM has not provided an estimated number of affected vehicles but owners can contact the company directly using the GM Service Update number N222376580.
