Mississauga Rd. near the QEW will be completely shut down to traffic the weekend of Dec. 16-19 as work crews complete demolition of the highway overpass.

The task marks a milestone in the ongoing rehabilitation of the QEW bridge over the Credit River, a massive project that began well over a year ago.

Officials with the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project overseeing the major undertaking say Mississauga Rd., from the QEW westbound off-ramp to South Sheridan Way, will be fully closed from 10 p.m. on the Friday night (Dec. 16) until 5 a.m. the following Monday morning.

The closure will allow workers to carry out the “completion of the demolition of the existing QEW overpass at Mississauga Rd.,” project officials say.

During the work, access to Mississauga Cres. will be maintained with paid-duty police officers directing traffic, officials say.

Temporary nighttime/overnight closures have been commonplace the past several months both on the QEW and on Mississauga Rd. where it connects with the busy highway.

All work is being completed in order to facilitate winter staging activities, project officials say, adding more traffic disruptions are anticipated as work proceeds in the coming weeks and months.

Night and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. is expected to impact traffic for the duration of the project.
