An off-ramp on the Queen Elizabeth Way highway, which is in area of Burlington that saw a major truck fire two weeks ago, will be closed for repair work every night this week.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s Twitter account says that the off-ramp from the Toronto-bound QEW to North Shore Boulevard is closed nightly from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m.. The nightly closures tonight are scheduled to end on Saturday morning (Oct. 2).

On Sept. 9, a tractor-trailer carrying batteries caught fire on the QEW near North Shore Boulevard, which connects to Highway 403. The closure of the highway, cleanup and repair work caused major delays throughout the day. Lack of highway access in the Hamilton area diverted traffic on to city streets. There were reports that cross-city trips that would ordinarily take 10 minutes were taking up an hour.
