Drivers travelling along Airport Road in Brampton should expect lane restrictions over the summer as the Region of Peel moves ahead with a major infrastructure project aimed at supporting future growth and new housing development.

For the next two months, a sanitary trunk sewer installation project will result in partial lane closures on Airport Road between north of Countryside Drive and south of Mayfield Road.

The work will see one lane closed in each direction as crews install a 1,200-millimetre sanitary trunk sewer, a major underground pipe system that carries wastewater from homes and businesses to treatment facilities.

The Region of Peel says the project is part of its efforts to expand critical wastewater infrastructure needed to support new residential and commercial developments in Brampton and Caledon, while also meeting housing targets outlined under Ontario’s More Homes Built Faster Act (Bill 23).

On June 29, contractors are scheduled to begin tunnelling work beneath the roadway, a key phase of the project that allows installation of the sewer line with reduced surface disruption compared to full excavation.

Despite the underground construction method, motorists will still face reduced traffic flow through the corridor during the work period.

The project is expected to be completed by Sept. 1, 2026, at which point all lanes of Airport Road are scheduled to fully reopen.

Sanitary trunk sewers are considered essential municipal infrastructure, designed to handle large volumes of wastewater from growing communities and connect local sewer systems to regional treatment plants.

The Region of Peel says the work is necessary to ensure servicing capacity keeps pace with rapid population growth and new housing construction across Brampton and surrounding areas.

Drivers are being advised to plan ahead, expect delays in the area, and follow posted signage while travelling through the construction zone.
