Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival at mid-point of four-weekend run

The sap run is in full swing in north Oshawa for the Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival.
More than 800 sugar maple trees in the popular conservation area’s sugarbush have been tapped for the annual event that brings families up where Oshawa meets Scugog to see maple syrup demonstrations, enjoy self-guided sugarbush hikes and enjoy that most Canadian of sweet treats: maple syrup.
The self-guided tour takes you to see a modern evaporator, enjoy games and activities for the kids, horse-drawn wagon rides (weather and ground conditions permitting) and, of course, pancakes with real maple syrup (and sausages MADE with real maple syrup), with plenty of maple treats at the on-site store to take home.
Visitors can also watch fireside maple syrup production demonstrations, taste cedar tea and hear stories of maple syrup production from days gone by.
There are also special events, such as Oshawa Museum in Aunt Penny’s Cabin (Saturdays), Scugog Shores Museum in Aunt Penny’s Cabin (Sundays) and Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue with on-site animals (March 25-26).

The festival opened the weekend of March 11-12 and is open this weekend (March 18-19) and the following weekend (March 25-26) before closing for the season April 1-2.
