A community’s public works staff is usually an unheralded department that does a lot of work to keep the Town of Milton humming along smoothly.

Until May 27, the Town of Milton is recognizing National Public Works Week. This is a week where residents can learn more about the essential role public works plays in the community.

The theme for the 2023 National Public Works Week is Connecting the World Through Public Works.

“Public works connects us all by maintaining core infrastructure and essential services to improve quality of life here in Milton,” said Doug Sampano, director, Facilities, Operations & Environment.

“It is important to acknowledge and celebrate all of the often-quiet work these professionals do in order to maintain a happy and healthy community.”

Public works professionals strive to improve the quality of life for local residents. The Town of Milton Operations, Environment and Facilities staff play an integral role in keeping the community running, by ensuring that services and infrastructure are available, safe, and accessible for everyone.

This year, as part of the theme of connecting, the Town is recognizing the important role operational (public works) staff play in their connection to keeping the environment healthy, as part of their everyday work.

“The Town is always looking for ways to incorporate sustainable practices that improve the energy efficiency in our facilities and within the community. These practices include the use of electric hand tools,” said a Town spokesperson.

“If you see a Town of Milton worker in road maintenance, seasonal operations, landscaping/horticulture, forestry, and facilities maintenance, take a moment to thank them for working tirelessly to provide services for the community.”
